Feature

Squarespace-quality site from Works, not a spreadsheet

Squarespace handles brochure pages well; gallery inventory usually lives in Excel or Artlogic beside it. This guide publishes from Works in Website Studio, sells through Commerce and configurations, and retires the Monday copy-paste between Commerce SKUs and the registrar sheet.

Import the spreadsheet and Squarespace products

Export Squarespace Commerce products when you used them for prints. Export your gallery spreadsheet or Artlogic CSV separately.

Settings → Import data: upload files, Analyze columns, map artist, title, dimensions, price, availability, and image filenames. Commit contacts and artworks after the preview is clean.

Download Squarespace asset-library images into a ZIP when filenames must match import rows.

Gallery spreadsheet beside import mapping screen
Import gallery inventory once: Squarespace product pages become optional.

Works list as the registrar view

Open Works (`/works`). Columns: Artist, Inventory #, Location, Availability, On website, On storefront.

Toolbar: search, advanced filters, Bulk edit, Export… for fair checklists. This list replaces the spreadsheet column you used for "on site vs sold".

Link every row to an Artist record and a Status timeline Location entry at intake. See inventory management.

Commerce and Configurations for sellable work

Unique paintings: Object → Commerce → price and Include on storefront only when the piece should accept cart checkout (often off for headline works).

Prints and books: Catalogue work → Add configuration per variant → Commerce on each configuration row.

Website Studio Content → Works shows On storefront per configuration; the Works list column matches what collectors can buy online.

Works list with On website and On storefront columns
Works list: website and storefront columns reflect Website Studio and Commerce together.

Toggle public pages in Website Studio

Website Studio → Content → Artists, Exhibitions, and Works: toggle On web for entities that should appear on the public site.

Set exhibition Priority and artist Featured artwork so index pages order like your Squarespace nav.

Under Site → Pages, edit templates for Artist detail, Exhibition detail, and Work detail, then Publish. Sold works marked on Status drop from feeds on the next publish.

Private sales without public product pages

Works in viewing rooms do not need Squarespace Commerce SKUs. Build a room from Works multi-select, send the link, invoice from the contact or work Overview.

On web off + room-only is valid for confidential secondary pieces. On storefront off keeps cart buttons off the public page while the work stays in CRM history.

Compare commerce vs deals in online storefront art sales.

Migrate off Squarespace hosting

Parallel run: keep Squarespace live while new sales and availability updates happen only in Art.industries for 2–4 weeks.

Add custom domain in Website Studio → Site → Domain. Map old Squarespace paths in Redirects (especially `/exhibitions/*` and artist URLs).

Cancel Squarespace when one exhibition opening proves artist pages, sold states, and consignment statements agree. Cutover detail: migrate guide.

FAQ

Can we keep Squarespace for the public site only?
You can, but every sale still needs a manual Squarespace edit. Most galleries publish from Website Studio when fair prep exposes mismatched sold states.
We use WordPress instead of Squarespace: does this apply?
Same pattern: import into Works, publish from Website Studio, redirect old URLs. WordPress often lacks a clean product export.
Does Art.industries replace Squarespace Commerce?
Yes for galleries that want checkout on the same rows as inventory. Commerce plus Website Studio storefront toggles cover edition sales.
What about SEO and URLs?
Build 301 rows in Website Studio Redirects before DNS cutover. Keep Squarespace billing until Search Console shows stable redirect traffic.
How does pricing compare?
Squarespace has no permanent free inventory tier. Art.industries Core is free for Works, CRM, rooms, and invoicing; Advanced adds Website Studio and storefront. See pricing.
