Feature

Migrate from Squarespace, Wix, or Shopify in the app

This checklist follows the screens your team already opens: Settings import, Works and configurations, Commerce toggles, then Website Studio publish and redirects. Run a pilot slice (one artist or one exhibition) before you flip DNS.

Export from the old platform

Pull structured data before you touch Art.industries:

  • Shopify: Admin → Products → Export all products CSV. Export orders separately for accounting.
  • Squarespace: Commerce products from the inventory panel or vendor export; download images from the asset library.
  • Wix: Wix Stores → export products CSV; bulk-download Pro Gallery images from Media Manager when they were never store SKUs.
Spreadsheet export ready for import
Start with a product or portfolio CSV plus a folder of image files.

Import in Settings

Open Settings → Usage → Import data. Upload CSV, TSV, Excel, JSON, or one vendor ZIP (the server expands spreadsheets and can stage bundle images).

Click Analyze columns. Review the column mapping table: map title, artist, year, medium, dimensions, price, availability, and image filename columns. Fix warnings before Import artworks or Import contacts.

For ZIP artwork imports, map the vendor image column to import_image_names so photos from the bundle attach to each work row.

Settings import column mapping review
Settings import: edit mappings before commit; artwork rows need a linked artist.

Rebuild editions as Configurations

Shopify variants and Squarespace Commerce SKUs often flatten numbered runs into duplicate product rows. In Art.industries, open each Catalogue work → Editions or Options → Add configuration per sellable variant.

Set edition size, copy tracking, and price on each configuration's Commerce panel. Delete or merge duplicate parent works created by the import when they represent the same painting.

Unique paintings stay Object rows with Commerce on the work itself. See Object vs catalogue work before bulk edits.

Set Commerce and storefront toggles

On each Object, open Commerce: retail price, Storefront shipping strategy, stock, and Include on storefront when that row should accept cart checkout.

On each configuration, use its own Commerce panel for price and listing toggle. The Works list columns On website and On storefront reflect Website Studio Content and Commerce together.

Mark sold works on the Status timeline the same day an old storefront order arrives so availability matches everywhere.

Publish from Website Studio

Open Website Studio → Content → Works. Toggle On web for catalogue rows you want on artist and exhibition feeds. On storefront follows configuration-level Commerce.

Under Content → Artists and Exhibitions, toggle On web and set Priority / Featured artwork for index ordering.

Under Site → Pages, edit the Artist detail and Work detail templates, then Publish. Custom domain and redirects live under Site → Domain and Redirects. See Gallery website builder for block-level detail.

Website Studio Content Works toggles
Website Studio Content: On web and storefront flags per work or configuration.

Parallel run, redirects, and cutover

Keep the old site live 2–4 weeks while new sales run in Art.industries. Rule: no new works added only on Squarespace, Wix, or Shopify during parallel run.

Build a 301 map in Website Studio Redirects (old `/products/...` → new work URLs). Test top artist and exhibition URLs on staging before DNS.

Cutover order that works: inventory import → deals on Core (viewing rooms, invoicing) → public pages on Advanced → one test storefront order → DNS → cancel the old store plan after two stable weeks.

FAQ

How long does migration take?
Operational import: 2–3 weeks for a focused team. Public cutover often waits another 4–6 weeks until one exhibition or edition drop proves sold states, statements, and public pages agree.
Do we need Advanced on day one?
No. Core covers import, inventory, rooms, and invoicing. Advanced adds Website Studio on a custom domain and storefront checkout.
Will Google rankings drop?
301 redirects from Website Studio Redirects preserve equity when old URLs map to equivalent artist, exhibition, or work pages. Avoid 404ing sold exhibition press pages.
Can we import from Artlogic instead of a site builder?
Yes. Export CSV from Artlogic, upload in Settings import, and map columns the same way. Comparison pages list field notes per vendor.
What if we only fix inventory and keep Squarespace?
Possible, but you still update two catalogues. Most teams import on Core, run one fair cycle, then publish from Website Studio when manual Squarespace edits become the bottleneck.
