Feature

One Works catalogue for Shopify-style checkout and gallery deals

Shopify excels at cart checkout for prints and books. Galleries also need numbered copies, holds, and consignor splits on the same rows. This guide wires Works Commerce, configurations, and Website Studio so a storefront sale and a viewing room sale update one record.

Import Shopify products into Works

Shopify Admin → Products → Export CSV. Open Settings → Import data, upload the file, and run Analyze columns.

Map product title, variant SKU, price, and image filenames. Commit with Import artworks after the validation preview shows zero blocking errors.

Create missing Artist records on `/artists` before import when the CSV only has display names. Link consignments after the core works exist.

Import Shopify export once: then retire nightly product sync.

Split Objects from catalogue parents

Shopify often lists each variant as a separate product. In Art.industries: one unique painting → Object work type. Numbered run or size variants → one Catalogue work parent with multiple configurations.

Open the parent → Editions or Options → Add configuration per sellable SKU. Delete duplicate import rows that should have been variants.

See discrete vs aggregate copy tracking before you sell numbered impressions.

Commerce on Objects and Configurations

Object rows: Details for identity, Commerce for price, Storefront shipping, stock, and Include on storefront.

Configuration rows: open the configuration detail → Commerce panel for the same fields. Catalogue parents do not list on Commerce directly.

Paid storefront orders appear under Storefront orders; mark the work or copy sold on Status if checkout did not already close availability.

Configuration Commerce: each variant carries its own storefront listing.

List the same rows in Website Studio

Website Studio → Content → Works: On web exposes catalogue fields on public work pages; On storefront follows Commerce toggles for cart-eligible SKUs.

Artist and exhibition feeds read the same flags. When copy 4/25 sells, the public grid and cart stock update on the next publish cycle without editing Shopify Admin.

Paintings that should never be public products stay off On storefront but can still appear in private viewing rooms.

Run deals on the same records

Six-figure paintings and confidential offers use deals, not the storefront: reserve on Status, send a room, invoice through Stripe payment links.

Consignment splits live on linked contracts; Shopify order exports do not replace consignor statements.

Cutover checklist from Shopify

Parallel run: keep Shopify checkout live until one edition drop closes in Art.industries with matching inventory, statement, and public listing.

Turn off Shopify products when Storefront orders and Works availability agree for a full sales week.

Point the custom domain to Website Studio (Site → Domain), add Redirects for old `/products/*` URLs, then downgrade Shopify.

FAQ

Can we keep Shopify for merch only?
Yes, but you maintain two product lists unless merch SKUs also exist as Works with Commerce. Most teams consolidate when an edition sells on Shopify while internal inventory still shows available.
Does Art.industries replace Shopify POS?
High-volume counter merch may still use POS. Unique works, numbered editions, and fair deposits belong in Works with Commerce and invoicing.
How do Shopify variants map?
Each variant becomes a configuration under one catalogue parent, not a duplicate work row.
Where do storefront orders show?
Storefront orders in the sidebar. Each order links to the sold work or configuration and the buyer contact when checkout created one.
Which plan includes storefront checkout?
Advanced adds Website Studio custom domain and cart checkout. Core covers import, inventory, rooms, and invoicing before you retire Shopify.
