Industries

Artists, Galleries and Dealers

Whether a work is unique or one of an edition, it carries its own materials, condition, history, ownership and location, and may pass through studios, storage, exhibitions and consignments before it sells. Art.Industries keeps that record together as the work is documented, presented, moved and sold.

The blueprint

An artwork record

Begin with the fields expected in a professional artwork record, then add, rename or hide them to suit the artists, periods and types of work you handle.

  • Artist, title, date and period
  • Medium, materials and technique
  • Framed and unframed dimensions
  • Signatures, inscriptions, labels and marks
  • Provenance and ownership history
  • Exhibition and publication history
  • Condition reports and supporting documents
  • Authenticity and certificates
  • Catalogue raisonné and literature references

+ Add, rename or hide fields

In every record

  • Pricing, valuations and sales history
  • Images, details and installation views
  • Multilingual titles and descriptions

Every arrangement

  • Unique works and editions
  • Commissions
  • Loans
  • Resale
Why it is managed differently

Unique works and editions

A work may be one of a kind, or one numbered copy, proof or cast in an edition. Either way, its condition, identifying marks, location and buyer belong to that piece, while the edition keeps its copies together.

  • Unique or edition
  • Numbered copies
  • Proofs and casts

History shapes the record

Provenance, exhibitions, publications and catalogue references add context over time. Keeping them with the work makes that history easier to follow, present and pass to its next owner.

  • Provenance
  • Exhibition history
  • Literature

Sales begin with conversations

Some works can show a price. Others are offered privately or on request. Availability, holds and presentations help the team manage interest before an invoice or sale is created.

  • Availability
  • Holds
  • Pricing

Location is not ownership

A work may be at the studio, with a gallery, at a fair, on loan or in storage without changing ownership. Both parts of the record remain clear.

  • Current location
  • Movement history
  • Ownership history

Art.Industries was born out of years of working alongside galleries, artists and collectors, and the software they relied on. A work is never just inventory: it carries an artist’s practice, a history and the people around it. We want to honour that, in every record.

Answers

For Artists, Galleries and Dealers

Can I import an existing artwork inventory?

Yes. Guided imports help bring existing records into Art.Industries, including information held in spreadsheets. Your data can also be exported in full whenever you need it.

Can editions and unique works share one workspace?

Yes. Unique works and editions use the same artwork blueprint. Set a work up as an edition and each numbered copy, proof or cast keeps its own number, location, status and buyer.

Can I record both framed and unframed dimensions?

Yes. The artwork blueprint can keep both sets of dimensions, alongside framing details, materials, condition reports, certificates and other documents connected with the work.

Can the same record be used in presentations and sales?

Yes. Select information from the artwork record can be used across private presentations, websites, invoices and other parts of Art.Industries without maintaining a separate catalogue for each one.
