Website BuildersArt.Industries vs Wix and Squarespace

A website builder begins with pages and gives you tools to shape, publish and promote them. A catalogue-first platform begins with the objects and the records behind them, then uses those records for the website and the rest of the business. Both approaches can include online selling; the difference is what sits at the centre.

Wix and Squarespace offer more templates, design freedom and general website tools than Art.Industries. Art.Industries starts elsewhere: with a catalogue shared by inventory, the website, private sales, contacts and events. You do not need to replace your website to use it: Art.Industries also works on its own as the inventory and catalogue database for your business, which Wix and Squarespace are not built to be. This comparison looks at what each product is built to manage and what comes included.

Where they differ

The record comes first

Wix and Squarespace use CMS or store collections to build website content. Art.Industries begins with the business catalogue. The website, private presentations, invoices, campaigns and events all use those same records, so a change is made in one place.

Objects carry histories

Wix and Squarespace can add detail to products or CMS items and manage variants and quantities. Art.Industries gives a unique object or numbered edition copy its own record, including its location, owner, price, condition and provenance.

The shop is optional

Wix and Squarespace can both sell online, and their website-building tools go further. Art.Industries can also run behind an existing website, supporting inventory, contacts, private presentations, invoices and events without requiring a public shop.

Comparing Website Builders

Can I keep my current website?

Yes. You can keep an existing Wix, Squarespace or other website and use Art.Industries alongside it for inventory, contacts, presentations, invoices, campaigns and events. Your catalogue is then maintained in one place.

What fees apply when I sell online?

Art.Industries adds no platform fee; payments use your own Stripe account. Wix states that it adds no transaction fee, although payment processing still applies. Squarespace adds a 2% commerce fee on Basic and 0% on Core and higher plans.151617
